Leigh Ingham, MP for Stafford, Eccleshall and the villages, has launched a petition to keep a Post Office in Highfields following proposals to close it.
The move has come about as a result of Morrisons’ proposal to shut its Highfields store, where the Post Office is currently located.
Leigh is urging residents to sign the petition to demonstrate the strength of local feeling to Morrisons, Post Office, local businesses, and ministers.
The MP has contacted both Morrisons and Post Office to try to find a way to keep the store open and is calling on local retailers to come forward and apply to host a new branch in Highfields.
Leigh has also written directly to Blair McDougall, Minister for Small Business and Economic Transformation, urging him to ensure continuity of services for residents as a matter of urgency.
Leigh Ingham, MP for Stafford, Eccleshall, and the villages said: “Highfields Post Office is a vital part of our community. People rely on it every day for banking, bill payments, passport applications, and parcel services. For many residents, particularly older people and those without a car, the next nearest branch at Rising Brook simply isn’t a realistic alternative.
“I’m fighting to make sure Highfields doesn’t lose its Post Office, and I know the community are with me. Every signature on this petition sends a clear message: we need a Post Office in Highfields.”
